Purposeful, intentional manipulation.  Less reliance on canned effects.

This artist exhibits a richly-textured, "Escheresque" quality with effective use of gray scale.  Rhythm is a main features here. Balance of light and dark holds together well.  The viewer's eye moves around the whole piece. The space is completely filled, though somewhat cluttered.  The artist makes conscious choices in overlapping parts of the face, creating an alien-looking, pyramid- shaped, almost 3-d effect.   However, selection around stone face is somewhat rough.  File size too big for web-posting online.

To achieve Level 5 skill, the artist could use more filters to enhance the pattern and make more conscious use of eye movement.
