Purposeful, intentional manipulation.  Less reliance on canned effects.

Effective layering techniques add depth to this piece. Canned effects not apparent here.  Nice use of  freehand tools and of transparency with brushes in some areas. The artist isolates and protects areas such as "exit."  The image, however, looks slightly degraded, possibly due to jpeg compression.
