Medium:book

Cabot art Standards:1. Understanding and using different mediums and techniques.

This was an exam project where we had to design our own book. Therefore I chose to do a journal book with a recessed window. I used the Japanese stab binding for the stitching and covered the book with hand made marbleized paper. The paper on the inside is antique parchment paper. Inside the window is plain black paper and then I used a gold marker to draw the sun design.

1A: The student can use different mediums and techniques and analyze what makes them effective or not effective.

My pot is 11 inches high, maybe a little less. I didn't plan any design, I don't think that it would have come out right if it had been planed. I think that the thickness is right because it didn't break. I chose a fairly large mold to make my mold around. I think that it was a good size. My coils are pretty interesting I guess, I like them. There isn't a continuous pattern but there is a pattern. My coils are basically the same size, although they seem to be bigger at the base. There aren't any cracks or slip showing and I like the way this pot turned out.

1B: Students can create works of art that show how their ideas relate to medium, techniques, and processes.

2B: Students can evaluate the effectiveness of artwork in terms of design elements and principles.

This piece has the visual elements focus, contraction, expansion, complexity, and chaos. The focal points are the large negative spaces. The shapes contract and expand as the spaces in between get larger or smaller. I think that this piece is pleasant to look at but it is also chaotic. I believe that this piece is well balanced with all the negative space. It is spread out evenly through the piece. I think that this was one of my favorite pieces of artwork that I did this year.

2B:Can evaluate the effectiveness of artwork in term of design elements and principles.

5A: Can identify intentions of artists creating art.

All of my shapes were cut out of a circle, even the negative space. This made it kind of difficult because I had to make sure that I liked all the shapes, even the negative shapes. I didn't have a planed design , but over all I think that this is really neat looking. Nothing in this piece was planned and I think that's what made it look so interesting.
