Artist's Comments

In this self portrait I wanted to create a back ground that was not what was in the actual back ground. I wanted to use something that represented me or my personality. I used the ocean and the night sky because I like them so much, they are part of my personality which should be shown in a self portrait. I used magazine photos and tissue paper in the piece on with of my drawing which was done with colored pencil and pastels. I have the background tied into face by bringing the lightning into the hair on one side and the hair into the sea on the other. I like the way it turned out because its not simply focused on the head or features, and the softness of the features and strong background.

Cabot Standard- The student can use different mediums and techniques and analyze what makes then effective or not effective.

COIL POT

This is my clay pot which we wanted to make using coils and repeated patterns. We wanted to have the coils tightly together so that we could actually put water in it after it was fired.I glazed my pot to be blue and orange to have the complimentary colors together. They didn't come out the way I had planned, lots of the the orange turned white. At first I really didn't like it that way but I guess it gives it character!

Cabot Art Standard- Student can create works of art that show how their ideas relate to the medium, techniques, and processes. And student can evaluate the effectiveness of the artwork in terms of design elements and principles.

ABSTRACT COLOR DESIGN

I really liked the way this came out, it represents seaweed flowing in the water.I think the shapes help to convey the feeling of movement. I think the colors look good together and I am happy with them as analogous colors that go together well.

Cabot Standard-Painting technique is applied in layers. This may be experimental or controlled but shows a well thought out process. Composition incorporates negative space as part of it arrangement and breaks away barriers of the picture plane.

3 DIMENSIONAL PAINTING

This is much brighter in real life. I used contrasting colors. I had negative space because I don't have a plane surface, only here where it appears to be flat and you can't tell that there is shape sticking out in every direction. It would be hang for display like a mobile.

REDUCTION LINOLEUM PRINT

This print is called Bachelor. It actually consists of 3 prints in a row. One is turquoise and purple and the others are black white and gray. The point was to make a first print and then carve away more and then make a second print. We wanted to express a mood and to also have a light and dark effect. I like the seriousness of the face and the shadowing in the hair and on the check bone.
